Blind Faith
July 17, 2004
The followers of Buddhism in Sri Lankan are not practictioners of what the Lord Buddha preached. Before lord Buddha, people in south asia were said to be blindly worshipping rocks and trees believing they were gods. The buddhists of Sri Lanka are no different from those people.
They do not questions their own actions, they follow buddhism because their parents are buddhist and their grand parents were buddhist before them. They never question the validity of some of the preachings of the monks. Those who call themselves liberal may say that do not worship the monks but the lord buddha when they worship statutes made of rock.
The inescapable fact is that the buddha, damma and sangha are linked, together they are known as the triple gem. Thus you cannot say you are following the first two but not the latter. And the dhamma that is taught in schools and temples is the dammha accoding the priests.
