The president says
July 9, 2004
The president in a speech has said that her party's candidates for the provincial council elections to be held on saturday are free of bribery and corruption. She went on to concede that there may be one or two candidates who may not be pure as gold and asked the voters reject them at the elections.
The president seems to have already forgotten what she said just before the parliamentary elections. Her party was 100% free of bribery and corruption or violence then. (Even though other parties filed so many complaints against her own party of election malpractices).
She has also forgotten what happened to the candidates who were rejected by the voters. Several MPs from the presiden'ts party the UPFA who were voted into parliament were asked to resign to make way for those who were rejected!! One new appointee wasn't even in the nominations list yet now finds himself as the deputy minister of defense no less.
