Bomb
July 7, 2004
On the April 2nd Sri Lankans voted against peace. Today came the first indication that they have got what they asked for, a bomb went off in Colombo after a gap of three years today.
Unfortunately for the government foreign donors promised as much as $4.5 billion in aid should the peace process suceed, so they were not in a position cast the first stone. (5% of 4.5$ is a lot of money) So they gave considerably lip service to the peace process while doing the exact opposite. Then again the president and her government is best known for not keeping promises (though the gullible Sri Lankan still continues to believe them).
Anyone who had seen the check points coming up in colombo and some of the highways leading to the north and east would have thought that war is not far off. Anyone who didn't believe so can now see the blood on the ground. The peace dove is indeed dead. The weapons dealers must be partying tonight.
What's interesting is that it's still unclear who the suicide bomber was. With all the spin doctoring and outright lying by all political parties plus the northern and eastern tigers we may never know the truth. Expecting the police to dig up the truth is futile -they are only capable of extracting confessions through beatings - in this case the suspect is in pieces.
