back to Great Western

June 25, 2004

It's back to Great Western after a gap of nearly two months and what a change it is from colombo. Although colombo has been getting it's share of rainy and mild weather for the last two months that seemed to have ended during the last few days. We have had a dry spell with out a drop of rain for exactly one week.

The mercury went above the 30'C mark for the first time in a long long time today, yet when we arrive at my sister's house at around 8:00 in the evening the termometer reads a very cool 16'C.

The drive was uneventfull except for usual amount of bad drivers, but they thin out as you gain altitude, in the hill country of sri lanka there are two kinds of drivers good ones and dead ones, the third variety, bad ones are aliens. Aliens from Colombo who make occaisional trips to Nuwara Eliya and live to tell the tale.

There is a definite change in the scenary along this road though, many trees have fallen due to the strong winds that lashed the country through out the month. Many others are bent over and look like they may topple into the precipe any minute.
