3 months salary for 4 days of work.

June 17, 2004

I kid you not. This is the happy situation that 225 Sri Lankans are faced with. All indications are they may get 4 months of pay for 5 days of work. It's true that their salary is a small compared to what some of the top executives in the country are getting, but look at all the perks.

So who are these people? they are parliamentarians. Since the election of April 2nd, the government has failed to obtain a majority in parliament. As a result they are avoiding meetings of the parliament like the plague.

In the absence of a parliment what we have is a defacto dictatorship by the president. You might think the opposition would be displeased with this turn of events. Think again. They many in the opposition are too busy covering up their past sins, backstabbing each other or catching up with their sleep (not always in their own beds)

Others are contemplating throwing in their lot with the government, which is trying it's best to obtain a majority by hook or by crook. All this goes to show that people get the government they deserve, but surely no one deserves such a lame and pathetic opposition.
