Mr Thondaman, leader of the CWC has shown once again that this country does have hope, but only if the good people work together. As someone once said all that's needed to triumph is for good men to do nothing.
What on earth am I going on about? speculation was ripe the last few weeks about the CWC throwing in their lot with the UPFA minority goverment so that they can muster a simple majority in parliament. The UPFA of course is the party that won the election in April, and despite a Gobbelsian campaign to show that they won 2/3 of the electorates (they didn't). So they were throwing lots of carrots (ministries) at the CWC in an attempt to get their support.
The CWC to it's credit stuck to their principals. Usually Sri Lankan politicians change their policies more often than their shirts. According to news reports the CWC had insisted that the constitution should not be tampered with and the upper kothmale hydro power project be scrapped. Both these demands are thoroughly unpalatable for the UPFA so the deal fell through.
