The Koel returned yesterday with the possible intention of laying one of her own eggs in the sparrows' nest. I have not heard of koels devouring other birds so I think it's unlikely that the hatchlings who have just left the nest are her in any danger from her.

This time there were a couple of magpies in the vicinity and they threw in their lot with the sparrows just like the bul-bul did the other end. The koel didn't attempt a seige of the nest this time around but left after only a half hearted attempt.
