Yet Another Sell Out
May 31, 2004
So far the CWC and the SLMC, two small parties that usually contest the election in partnership with the UNF has stuck with them. In the past the CWC in particular would contest in partnership with the UNF and later join the UPFA (then the PA) should they find themselves on the loosing side.
This year so far they have sat with the opposition. The main reason that they have not thrown their lot in with the UPFA is probably the government's move to change the constitution. While the UNF has maintained a stony silence both the CWC and the SLMC have protested strongly against it.
Then there is the Upper Kothmale hydro power project, The CWC has consistently agitated against it because the people most effected would be the same people that make up their vote base.
Then again the CWC is made up of Sri Lankan politicians, the most noticable characteristc is that they change their minds. In the case of the UPFA it's usually a matter of taking a 180 degree turn, do an about face and contradicting themselves. Yet according to today's newspapers the CWC is planning to join them, which is pretty much fhe complete opposite of their statements earlier this month.
