The state media mafia yesterday carried a daring scoop. The leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress - one of the smaller parties in parliament is accused of having extra marital affairs and being a drunkard by a woman claiming to be his lover.

You might think these are very damaging allegations, but in this country the state media have accused people of worse things, with out causing any serius set backs to the carrier of the accused. But what's makes this scoop really interesting is that the story behind the scoop was scooped by the Sunday Leader several hours befor the telecast.

The sunday leader carried a full two paged article on how a Ms. X (whom they refused to identify) had been 'mislead' into making all kinds of accusations against the leader of the SLMC. The reporter also went on to say that these utterences were captured on video tape by two of Mr Hakeems fellow parliamentarians, and indeed this is what appeared to have been telecast on the state media mafia last evening, more than 12 hours after, the leader scooping them.

Interestingly the lady in the scandal appeared on a private TV channel (in a program hosted by the editor of the sunday leader) to confirm that she was mislead into making these allegations.

That begs the question: how stupid can you get? the lady in question hasn't certainly acted intelligently, she probably takes afer the best known sri lankan lady.
