St. Clair Under Threat Again.

April 27, 2004

When the UNP lost the election many people who love nature heaved a sigh of relief. The last government was a total ecological disaster. And they promised to make it worse with two coal power plants and a hydro electricity project that would see the destruction of two of the most famous water falls in Sri Lanka.

The upper kothmale hydro power project, which would see the drying up of the St Clair waterfall was originaly put forward by the UPFA (Then called the PA), But it was the UNP that took the project to it's bosom like a long lost child. Fortunately the UNP does have one of two people with hearts and Mr Thondaman (leader of the CWC) being one of lead some of the protests by the people of the area.

Then yesterday the new goverment announced that it would resume this project, probably because the former minister of power an energy has a son in law in parliament who is said to be flirting with the UPFA. This MP is of course a member of the UNP but according to the state media mafia he has voted with the UPFA when electing the speaker.

There whole thing smells like a fish caught on the kothmale river on april 2nd.
