Parliament without a government

April 22, 2004

Today the new parliament, the first after the recently conducted general election is set to meet. The parliament will meet with out any party having enough seats to form a government. And both the major parties have failed to get a firm commitment from the smaller parties upto now.

If that's not interesting enough, we don't even a proper cabinet. This is despite nearly everyone in the SLFP being made a minister. The other party in the coalition had refused to accept their places in the cabinet due to a dispute.

Appointing the speaker will be very interesting indeed.
