Arithmatic and Governances

April 8, 2004

Here is a simple Arithmatic excercise for you. You may use a calculator. Devide 22 by 3, and multiply the result by 2. What is the final result? If you answer is 14.67 you are right. (acurate to two decimal places)

In this morning's papers the UPFA has an advertisement saying they have won in 14 of the 22 districts and as such they have more than a 2/3 majority. If they are so bad at arithmatic surely they will not be able to handle the country's finances.

In actual fact the UPFA recieved only around 45% of the vote and they do not have even a simple majority in parliament.
