Ironically it now looks like the sinhala hardliners may have elected the countries first tamil prime minister to power. According to the news reports Mr. Lakshman Kadirgamar is set to become the next prime minister of the country.

This is a master stroke by the president because if the UNF attempts to topple the government they will need the support of the tamil parties. The tamil parties obviously cannot vote againsts a tamil prime minister.

Perhaps we are one step closer to solving the ethnic problem.
