Here is a very interesting stat for you. In the balapitiya electorate the total number of votes cast at the last election was almost the same number as at this election. But look at the final result

| PA/JVP (UPFA) | 17,886 | 18002 |
| UNF | 16,030 | 14,117 |
| Monks | 1,944 |
So much for the UNF theory that the monks will erode the UPFA vote banks but leave theirs in tact.
