False Values

March 31, 2004

This is a country of false values. The Sinhala majority name themselves after the Lion - an animal that never lived in this country.

The mahavamsa tells the countries history as recorded by monks for from around 2,500 years ago. The story says the Sinhala nation was founed by an outcast from a indian kindom who married a local damsel and promptly ditched her for someone else soon after.

The mahavamsa also tells the story of the great tamil king Elara, said to be a very noble and just king. Dutugamunu a Sinhala prince waged war against Elara because he was a tamil and finaly slew him in battle.

All that happened thousands of years ago but why cast dutugamunu as a hero when the story is being told to little children.

The main slogan of the 'left alliance' and the ayatollah in yellow robes contesting the elections is that they want to preserve Sri Lanka's values.
