According to the economic data published by the central bank the country was in recession in 2001. Then we had growth rates of around 5% over the last two years. Two years durng which the UNF governed the country.

Then how come one of the major slogans of the left alliance is that the UNF ruined the countries economy? The answer is simple, Sri Lankans are a very gullible lot. The old adage of Gobbel's that if you keep repeating a lie eventully it will be believed is very true in this country. For good measure you should speak loudly and wave your fists.

Recent opinion polls show that as much as 70% of the countries population does indeed believe that the economy is weak. We live in an island but obviously people don't take their pinch of salt.
