Tourism boom continues

March 14, 2004

Despite the elections, despite the heat, despite the rumblings in mordor the tourism boom in Sri Lanka continues. Nowadays it's almost impossible to get a hotel room at short notice. Compare this with the situation just three years ago when five star hotel rooms went for well below $100 per night.

At the end of the day Sri Lankans are truely hospitable nation. If You drop into any village house unannounced during the noon hours, you will not be allowed to leave without sharing their lunch. This tradition is practised even in the most humble adobe. Things may be slightly different in
Colombo where things move at a much faster pace and people are more stressed out but they are no less friendly than the villagers.
