Two players do not make a team
March 17, 2004
Sri Lankan cricket seems to revolve around two players. Murali might get all the credit but he would be lost without Chaminda Vaas. Though foriegn commentators and columnists speak very highly of Vaas their Sri Lankan counter parts sadly spend more time praising the country's spineless batsmen.
In todays match Vaas has shown once again what a quality player he is. When ever Sri Lanka has won a cricket match either Vaas or Murali or both of them have performed well. In this series they both have done well but the current crop of Australians are so good, you need all 11 players to do really well if you are going to beat them. Sadly it now seems that Sri Lankan team has only two performers.
The other players may have fantastic averages but that's because they score heavily against weaker teams. Kumar Sangakkara is the only batsmen to have a respectable batting average against the aussies - but that's only in the one day version of the game.
